The Grampians Peaks Trail is Open Again

It’s been a long road back, but the Grampians Peaks Trail has officially reopened.

After last summer’s fires, this reopening marks an incredible milestone for everyone who loves, works, and walks in Gariwerd. Thanks to the huge effort from Parks Victoria teams, contractors, and volunteers, the full trail is again accessible for walking — a massive achievement for the region and for those who’ve been patiently waiting to return.

There’s still a little way to go: several central section hike-in campsites (including Barri Yalug, Duwul, Durd Durd, Yarram and Wannon) remain closed while recovery works continue on shelters, platforms, and water systems. For now, these areas are open for day walking only, but with repairs well underway, we expect camping access to return early in the new year.

That means our Autumn 2026 season is on track — with our Central, Southern, and Full Grampians Peaks Trail (End-to-End) expeditions coming back online! We’re already working on shuttle solutions to help hikers make the most of the reopened sections.

For now, pack your boots, carry plenty of water, and tread gently. The landscape is regenerating beautifully — but it’s still fragile.
