With growing demand for outdoor skills training, Bushcraft Survival Australia (BSA) has expanded its 2025 course calendar, offering more opportunities around the country for Australians to learn practical bushcraft and survival skills.
Founded by Alone Australiaโs Survival Consultant, Gordon Dedman, BSA has seen a steady rise in interest as more people seek to reconnect with nature and build resilience in the outdoors. The popularity of this yearโs courses highlights the relevance of learning hands-on skills that prepare participants for both everyday adventures and unexpected challenges.
โAs more people seek adventure and reconnect with nature, understanding basic survival skills and a deeper understanding of bushcraft has never been more important. Whether youโre an outdoor enthusiast, a family wanting to build resilience, or someone preparing for Australiaโs extreme conditions, our courses provide practical, hands-on training that could one day make all the difference,โ said Gordon Dedman, Founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia.

BSAโs program covers a progression from introductory fundamentals through to advanced bushcraft, alongside specialist modules in remote first aid, coastal survival, and family-friendly training. Participants learn everything from fire-lighting and navigation to shelter construction, water purification and traditional cooking methods.
Operating from outdoor expedition-style base camps across diverse Australian landscapes, each course combines survival priorities with deeper bushcraft knowledge, encouraging a stronger connection to nature. Courses transition participants from using modern tools to relying solely on natural resources, covering essential survival skills such as:
- Survival priorities and psychology
- Essential equipment and the safe use of cutting tools
- Fire lighting using modern and primitive methods
- Water collection, filtration and purification
- Shelter construction, both modern and natural
- Plant identification and foraging
- Indigenous and outback cooking methods
- Camp craft
- Emergency signalling and rescue
- Navigation using modern and natural methods
The 2025 program includes the three-day Fundamental Module 1, the four-day Fundamental Module 2, and the combined seven-day Fundamental 1 & 2. More experienced participants can take part in the Intermediate Module 3 and Advanced Module 4, both running over seven days. Shorter options include the one-day Survival Essentials, the two-day Junior/Family Course, and the two-day Remote First Aid Casualty Care. For those wanting a different environment, BSA also offers a three-day Coastal Bushcraft Survival Course. Customised private and corporate training is also available.
