Set in the spectacular Nitmiluk National Park, Jatbula Trail offers walkers lessons in Indigenous Australian history, plentiful wildlife to observe and no shortage of choice swimming spots.

This walk had been a long time coming. We were originally going to do this in 2019, but found we just couldn’t book a place. For 2020, we thought we would be clever and when the bookings opened we had three people on three separate computers ready to go and even then we only just managed to get on. By the end of 2019, we had the bookings for flights, accommodation and transport all sorted; we were right to go, but then 2020 came. Luckily, the NT National Parks allowed us to transfer our bookings to 2021. So on a beautiful day we set off along the trail following the path of the Traditional Owners, the Jawoyn people who have been travelling this path for thousands of years. The trail was named after Peter Jatbula, one of the Jawoyn Traditional Owners, who used to walk this trail with his family.
