Sydney Art Deco & Modernist Walks book captures sights of Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay

The tiny one-square-kilometre precinct of Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay is a national treasure, containing the best collection of some 100 Art Deco (1930s and 40s) and Modernist (1960s) apartment blocks in Australia.

Peter Sheridan is back with a nifty walking guide that grew from his successful book, SYDNEY ART DECO (2019), which highlighted the area’s architectural beauty.

Sydney Art Deco & Modernist Walks provides a self-guided two-three hour tour of this landmark area, which was Sydney’s first exclusive suburb. Its unique low-rise skyline reveals remnants of its 19th-century glory with nine colonial mansions, but is even more distinctive because of its 20th-century Art Deco and Modernist apartment buildings.

Important Australian architects are represented, with five beautiful Art Deco buildings by Emil Sodersten and five Modernist gems by Harry Seidler.

Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay is sited only two kilometres from the city on the harbour with beautiful parks and views. It has a village ambience and contains some of the best restaurants in Sydney.
